Course Description: This course introduces the basis concepts and techniques of animation. Students will focus on the basics of  2D animation and, using a 2D animation software, generate a final 2D animation work.

Course Competencies: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Utilize 2D animation applications for content development.

    • Use a 2D animation software to complete the project.
    • Perform pencil and/or wire-framing test.
    • Explore the use of the twelve principles of Animation.
    • Integrate stretch, squash, anticipation, and staging into 2D animation.
    • Integrate straight ahead action, pose-to-pose, follow through, and overlapping action into a 2D animation.
    • Integrate slow in and slow out, arcs, secondary action and timing into a 2D action.
    • Integrate exaggeration, weight, depth, balance, and appeal into a 2D animation.
    • Set up hierarchical relationships.
    • Develop an animation that utilizes cycles.
    • Utilizing a non-scripted existing source, produce a storyboard with original perspectives.
